May Lindstrom Skin The Youth Dew Is the Secret to Dewy Skin (Review)

|

It is no secret that I absolutely love using a good face oil. Since returning back to Australia, my skin hasn’t really been behaving as it is taking it’s time to adjust to the cooler Australian climate and I have found that using face oils have really helped my skin. They provide my skin with much needed extra nourishment in the way of hydration and moisture but they also provide my skin with nutrients in the way of Vitamins and minerals as well as acting as an antioxidant boost. I find myself spending more of my money on face oils than actual serums as of late and have been using them a bit more than normal. Recently, my favourite online store, Cultbeauty had a generous promotion of a Autumn gift box and I jumped at the offer and purchased myself a few May Lindstrom Skin goodies. One of these being her intoxicating The Blue Cocoon and the other her face oil, The Youth Dew.

I had received a sample The Youth Dew a few months prior to this purchase and I was quite surprised with how much I enjoyed using this. I liked it so much that it was on my “next to buy” list as I had been really impressed with how it performed. I hear many people rave about The Blue Cocoon, The Honey Mud and The Jasmine Garden, but I rarely hear anyone talk about The Youth Dew. I think it is quite an underrated product in her range and has become one of my May Lindstrom favourites as it has such a beautiful soft scent and it feels so silky on the skin. What I do love most about it though, is that it gives my skin that really plump, juicy dewy glow that make your skin look luminous under makeup without looking or feeling greasy.

What Is It:

The Youth Dew is described on the May Lindstrom website as a “joyously over-the-top hydrating potion that transforms the skin with a power packed bouquet of 20 ambitiously regenerating and indulgent plant and botanical oils, infused with time stopping CoEnzyme Q10”. In other words, this is a face oil that helps to hydrate and help with signs of ageing.

What Does It Do:
The Youth Dew is a facial oil that contains a blend of plant oils such as avocado oil, jojoba oil, olive oil and sea buckthorn oil (and many more oils) that work in unison to provide the skin with extra hydration and moisture and help to balance the skin. The oils that have been carefully selected and handcrafted in small batches contain a plethora of antioxidants, fatty acids and nutrients to help to nourish the skin and help the skin to protect itself from free radical damage – ultimately helping slow down the signs of ageing. Like all of May Lindstrom’s products, The Youth Dew contains ingredients that are either certified organic or are wild harvested to ensure the most potent blend of ingredients that aim to help protect and keep the skin looking healthy and glowing.

Ingredients:
*Persea Americana (Avocado) Oil, *Limnanthes Alba (Meadowfoam Seed) Oil, *Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Oil, *Olea Europaea (Olive) Oil, Prunus Spp (Plum Kernel) Oil, *Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Oil, *Rosa Rubiginosa (Rosehip Seed) Oil, *Punica Granatum (Pomegranate) Oil, *Calophyllum Inophyllum (Tamanu) Oil, *Borago Officinalis (Borage Seed) Oil, Aleurites Moluccans (Kukui Nut) Oil, *Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, *Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium Rose) Essential Oil, *Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Essential Oil, *Citrus Sinensis (Sweet Orange) Essential Oil, *Citrus Limon (Lemon) Essential Oil, *Rosa Damascena (Rose Absolute) Essential Oil, *Rosa Damascena (Bulgarian Rose) Essential Oil, *Citrus Aurantium (Neroli) Essential Oil, ***Daucus Carota (Carrot Seed) Essential Oil, Ubiquinone (CoEnzyme Q10).

My Thoughts:
I have really been enjoying using May Lindstrom’s the Youth Dew as it not only does hydrates and keep my skin balanced and healthy looking, it also gives me skin a really beautiful dewy glow that looks amazing underneath makeup. The Youth Dew contains a wonderful concoction of carrier and essential oils that create both a wonderfully luxurious texture and feeling on the skin but also a delicate scent that comes from the mix of rose, neroli and citrus essential oils.

Like all of May Lindstrom’s products, The Youth Dew uses only natural ingredients which are all carefully selected for their nourishing qualities for the skin. The first thing I noticed when looking at the ingredients list is that May Lindstrom puts quite clearly on the packaging it’s carrier oils such as avocado oil, jojoba seed oil and Rosehip seed oil but it also lists quite clearly what is an essential oil as well. This is fantastic for those who may be more susceptible to allergies to essential oils as they are clearly stated in the listing. It is obvious that The Youth Dew contains an abundance of oils (20+ in fact) that help to maintain and balance the skin and the prevent signs of ageing. Avocado oil is rich in fatty acids which helps to moisturise and balance the skin, allowing the skin to feel soft to touch and silky smooth. It is also rich in Vitamin E, an antioxidant which helps to stimulate skin repair and fight off free radicals, preventing the ageing process.  Due to its richness in fatty acids, Avocado oil has been suggested to be a good oil for those who suffer from acne to use. Olive oil is another oil that is used in The Youth Dew and it is known for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant qualities. This oil is also considered to be one of the most ‘hypoallergenic’ oils out there as scientists have seen little reactions from patients, and it has been proven to help those with skin disorders such as eczema. Sea Buckthorn oil is another oil that is used in the formulation of The Youth Dew and it is rich in carotenoids which are fantastic in protecting the skin from cellular damage thus a great ingredient when it comes to anti ageing. It is also acts a fantastic anti-inflammatory which again, works well for those who have sensitive skin or are prone to redness or breakouts. Finally, May Lindstrom’s The Youth Dew also contains CoEnzyme Q10 in which scientific studies have shown, helps with collagen synthesis and cell repair, which again aids in repairing damaged skin cells and slowing the ageing process of the skin.

This combination of carefully curated oils used in May Lindstrom’s The Youth Dew make it a really lovely hydrating face oil that packs a punch in antioxidants, balancing the skin and giving the skin a really luminous finish. I find that this works great on it’s own if you like your routines to be kept simple, but it also works really well under a moisturiser before applying make-up as well (or no make-up at all!). Due to the beautiful finish that it gives, I find that this works really well underneath my foundation. However, do be careful using it with really dewy foundations, especially if you have oily skin as you could run the risk of looking like a grease ball.  I personally think that this works much better with matte or satin finish makeup (ie. mineral powders) or those who have dry skin and need the extra moisture without looking dull and flat. I can’t tell you how much I love wearing this before I go out as this oil really does brighten, lift and give my skin a beautiful lit with within glow. It looks amazing underneath make-up and when I add a bit of highlighter on the cheeks, it gives my skin that extra lift. I get so many compliments about my skin when I wear this with my foundation base and it would be one of my favourite ways to use this face oil.

Other than looking wonderful underneath makeup, The Youth Dew really is a great all round face oil that gives you enough hydration for the day but also is super nourishing to use in the evening as well. It doesn’t feel heavy and this beautiful golden liquid sinks so well in to the skin. On my combination skin, this face oil does not feel heavy at all and gives my dry patches enough nourishment to keep my skin looking plump and smooth, without sending my oily t-zone into a greasy mess. I actually used this face oil for a few days straight when I was in Seoul, and I found that it really did brighten my complexion and kept my skin looking even. It calmed and soothed any redness that occurred from exfoliation or general irritation.  From the clever combination of carrier oils such as avocado oil, rosehip seed oil, meadowfoam seed oil and tamanu oil (to name a few), The Youth Dew keeps my skin looking plump, healthy and glowing. I think this is due to the abundance of essential fatty acids and nutrients found in the oils used. Unfortunately, I don’t have obvious fine lines so I am not so sure with how this performs when it comes to actually reversing or minimising the look of fine lines and wrinkles, so this is an area I am unable to comment on, sorry! The oils used in The Youth Dew however, do have some promising studies backing up the claims of protecting the skin from free radical damage as they are loaded with antioxidants. This does mean that The Youth Dew can potentially protect the skin and slow the signs of ageing. Do keep in mind that this is more preventative and is something that cannot be seen until much later down the track. In saying that, I did have some slight pigmentation from an annoying spot and I found that after using this for the week I was in Seoul, the pigmentation/scarring did disappear quite quickly and by the end of my trip it was almost gone (usually it takes a little bit longer to heal and disappear).

Due to the use of essential oils in May Lindstrom’s The Youth Dew, this does have a lightweight floral scent which may bother those who are quite sensitive to fragrances. The scent is in now way over powering, it is quite soft and delicate but it is most definitely there. Once applied on to the skin, it doesn’t linger and fades quite quickly. The colour and texture of The Youth Dew is just beautiful, the colour of this oil is a warm golden colour and the texture of this oil is slightly thicker than some oils but it does glide and sink in effortlessly into the skin. Just the look and feel of this oil alone makes it seem quite luxurious. I love the fact that The Youth Dew uses a pump bottle mechanisim and not a dropper mechanism. Whilst, I don’t mind a dropper, I find the pump to be quite quick and easy to use in the morning. One pump is generally enough to use on my entire face for both day time and evening, a little does go a long way with face oils in general and The Youth Dew is no exception to this. I would say that this oil does suit most skin types, but those with really sensitive skin must be wary of some of the essential oils in the ingredients.

Overall, I really have enjoyed using May Lindstrom’s The Youth Dew, I can’t get over how dewy and glowing my skin looks after I use this. I do believe that this really is the secret to that effortless dewy glow as it gives you that finish and look instantly. Not only does it provide the skin with this beautiful radiant glow, it also helps to moisturise and keep the skin looking silky smooth. It’s a wonderful face oil to use for both the daytime or as a lush treatment serum to use in the evening. Due to the fact it is so packed full of wonderful fatty acids and nutrients, it can be used on its own as a serum and moisturiser in one, or it can be layered underneath an additional moisturiser. May Lindstrom’s the Youth Dew is an incredibly underrated product in her line up but I do think it is a wonderful all rounder oil that helps to protect and nourish the skin.

Repurchase YAY of NAY
I will repurchase this again once I have ran out and only due to the fact that I do love the effect this gives underneath my make-up. The finish it gives and how it contributes to the final make up look is unlike anything else I have used before and it does also work incredibly well to keep the skin feeling incredibly silky soft, smooth and plump. This face oil is in no way a cheap oil and it’s price is in no way for everyone, however the quality of the oil can be seen in the texture and feel of the oil on the skin and a little bit of this does go quite a long way. Whilst the amount of 20ml may be small, it will last you quite a few months and even more if you use it once a day only.

May Lindstrom’s The Youth Dew comes in a 20ml bottle and can be purchased from the May Lindstrom store for USD$120 , I Am Natural Store for AUD$154 and Cultbeauty for GBP£96.00
