3 New Skincare Discoveries for August

|

I have stumbled upon some fantastic new skincare brands as of late that I can’t wait to share with you all. In this August edition of skincare discoveries I mention three brands from different parts of the world which aim to deliver the best skincare possible for the skin. The three different brands have extremely different approaches in their formulations to achieve this. Brand new green beauty label, Virginia Stone focuses on a more customised routine that uses raw, natural and unique organic active ingredients to help its three targeted skin tones. Singaporean label, Allies of Skin combines both nature and science together in its potent and effortless, no fuss and easy to use formulations. Finally we have Rationale Skincare, a cosmoceutical brand that focuses heavily on research and development and works closely with Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons across Australia to deliver products with concentrated active ingredients.  Despite their differences though, each brand brings something quite unique and different to the table which is why I find that they are an exciting new discovery and why I am so excited to share!

I stumbled upon this brand on Instagram and immediately was attracted to the brand’s unique packaging and beautiful photography on the website. Virginia Stone is quite a unique concept whereby their products are not made for particular skin types, instead their approach is skincare for different skin tones. The range is divided into 3 different avant-garde collections – Kavesi for Fair Skin Tones, Jasari for Medium Skin Tones and Odaja for Dark Skin Tones and each collection is customised according to different concerns and requirements that each skin tone will have. For example, those with fair skin tones (Kavesi) generally have a lower tolerance to the sun, higher in sensitivity and are less likely to be concerned with pigmentation – each of the products in the Kavesi range are specially formulated and hand crafted with care in small batches to address the main concerns for those with this skin type.

I also love the transparency that this brand offers to its customer. With the only product currently available for pre purchase at this time, being a luxe eye cream, Virginia Stone have not only just put a standard ingredients list for this product. It has instead gone above an beyond and chosen to educate it’s customer on what goes in to the product at each stage or layer and has an ingredient listing for every one of the layers. For example, the eye cream of ‘Eyes’ for Jasari starts with a ‘butter’ base which consists of ingredients such as mafura butter, cocoa butter, mulberry leaf, barberry root and prickly pair just to name a few. From there, the four additional layers of ‘Eyes’ are added step by step into the formulation – the Jasari Nectar, Tea Syrup, Corrective Complex and Vital Elixir. Each of these layers are carefully mixed and whipped together to form a beautiful, luxurious and decadent eye cream. This eye cream is considered to be a 3 in 1 Superfood Eye cream as it is a cream, serum and tonic in one which is set into a stunningly beautiful hand crafted Luxador concrete case.

Who would have thought putting a skincare product into concrete could be so ingenious, luxurious, environmentally friendly and oh so effortlessly cool? Yes you heard right, the masterminds at Virginia Stone use a beautifully crafted stone Luxador to store their products. The Luxador packaging is not only environmentally sustainable but it also helps to protect and preserve the 57 unique raw ingredients in each product as well. Currently Virginia Stone only has the ‘Eyes’ eye cream available for pre-order on their website, but will be rolling out an exciting full range in the next 12 months, so watch this space! I am extremely excited to see what this brand will product next.

Allies of Skin is one of those brands which are perfect for those who are constantly on the go or are travelling as this brand centres on keeping skincare simple. Featuring 3 products, an All Day Mask, Toner Mist and an Overnight Mask this brand aims to keep skincare aims on keeping skincare as effortless and seamless as possible without having to compromise on potent actives that make your skin healthy, glowing and well protected from ageing and environmental stress. I also love the fact that Allies of Skin uses a combination of both natural actives such as bisabolol, cocoa and honeysuckle flower extracts (to just name a few) and high tech science such its CXA-6 Panacea Complex (a trademarked combination of actives such Chronocyclin™, Citrustem™, Haloxyl™, Niacinamide, Spin Trap and Thiotaine) in its creations. More importantly, Allies of Skin products do not contain mineral oil, silicones, petrochemicals, parabens, polyethylene glycol, sulfates, GMOs, triclosan, phthalates, alcohol, synthetic dyes and fragrances which is a huge plus for me and great for those with sensitive skins.

Allies of Skin is the brainchild of Nicolas Travis, a Singaporean who’s lifelong dream is to create a skincare label that simply just works without the misleading promises. Having to experience acne as a teenager, he personally found it quite daunting having to scour and sort through the right products that would work for his skin. With a background in biomedical science, a passion for great skincare, Allies of Skin is a labour of love for Nicolas and it shows in every aspect of brand from the product itself, the meticulous detail of ingredients used in every formulation, the ease of use of the website and the amount of research, development and clinical trials that every product in the range has undergone.

The 1A All Day Mask is something that interests me the most as it is an all day mask (so much like a moisturiser on steroids) that aims to reduce the signs of fatigue and stress on the skin, hydrate, strengthen’s the skins natural barrier function, protects the skin from pollution and is also clinically shown to reduce the signs of acne lesions by 36% in 28 days. This product would be great for travelling, those who have an extremely busy and hectic lifestyle or those who are just lazy but want potent actives in their skincare routine without having to layer 7 different layers on their skin in the morning. It is also a product that is perfectly fine to incorporate into an existing routine.

Rationale Skincare’s Essential 6 Products

Rationale Skincare an Australia cosmoceutical brand developed by by Richard Parker, who at the age of 25, found that his skin was already showing signs of ageing and pimples even though he was using and trying a plethora of different skincare products. He found that simply did not work. Seeking to find out more and why, Richard would find himself often in his university’s library reading journals on pharmacology and dermatology. He soon found that he had a new understanding and knowledge of the skincare industry and how many companies were creating products that had little or no active ingredients to help the skin. He later studied cosmetic chemistry and after a lot of trial and error, Rationale Skincare was born.

The brand prides itself on delivering results with its potent and active formulations and being a research and evidence based company. All its formulations are ‘Isotropic Formulations’, whereby every product ‘delivers perfect synchronicity between its active ingredients, base formulation and the skin.  There are no superfluous or harmful ingredients and its products are completely “skin natural” formulations‘. As the products in the range are quite specialised, Rationale can only be found in approved Rationale Clinics in Australia or via their online website. The company is so passionate about their range, that they advise that all new customers either consult with a clinic or online with their professional skin experts to find the best prescribed skincare regime.

There are many things from Rationale that excite me, but what really attracted me to the brand is actually their sunscreen. Many of your will know how I feel about the importance of sunscreen (read here) and Rationale have two different types of suncare in their range: the B3-T Superfluid Suncreen, a dedicated sunscreen and also the most recent release, the Beautiful Skin Luminizing Superfluid, a mix of skincare and makeup. Both products have an SPF of 50, contain powerful sunscreen actives that protect the skin from the sun’s UVA and UVB rays and also are lightweight for the skin. The Superfluid Sunscreen contains other actives such as niacinamide which helps to support the skin’s barrier function, uneven skintone and help fight acne. The Beautiful Skin Luminizing Superfluid on the other hand, contains ceramides which are powerful for skin hydration and help the barrier function of the skin. The Beautiful Skin Luminizing Superfluid acts like a potent skincare and make-up in one which I love and is perfect for hot and humid summers but also creating a beautiful and natural looking base.
