One of the best things about coming home to Australia is being able to connect with some amazing local skincare brands that many of you from all over the world may not have heard of before. Australia's natural skincare industry is a vibrant one, with so many amazing different brands on offer.
However, one of the pioneers of the Australian natural skincare industry and perhaps even the world is Sodashi Skincare. I wrote a little bit about the brand in this blog post here for those who are interested but in brief, Sodashi means wholeness, radiance and pureness in Sanskrit. This wonderful company has been around since 1999 - way before the green beauty trend really started to take off. The brand was founded by Megan Larsen, who started making her own natural skincare, combining her knowledge in aesthetics, aromatherapy, Ayurveda, biochemistry and natural healthcare. Sodashi prides itself on being one of the most pure luxury skincare ranges in the world and is not tested on animals, are free from chemicals, synthetic fragrances, mineral oils and parabens. What I enjoy most about the Sodashi Skincare line is that whilst, luxury green beauty has really taken off in the past few years, the brand has remained true to itself and has not fallen into any 'trends'.
On my return back home to Perth, I was given the opportunity to try a small selection of the extensive Sodashi Skincare line and I have been so blown away with the performance of this luxury natural skincare brand. It has truly become one of my favourite green beauty brands as everything from the gorgeous and luxe packaging, the smell, the textures and how the products have performed have greatly impressed me. Their popular Brightening Marine Mineral Mask is no exception and I have loved the way my skin looks and feels after using this.
*** Please note that this item was kindly gifted to me from Sodashi Skincare with no obligation for a review. However, I have enjoyed using this mask so much that I just had to share with you all! Please be reminded that all opinions are my own honest opinions and I that I write about things because I genuinely wish to.
What Is It:
The Sodashi Skincare Brightening Marine Mineral Mask is a powerful wash off mask that helps to brighten the skin due to its unique blend of natural ingredients.
What Does It Do:
This beautiful Sodashi Brightening Marine Mineral Mask is a potent brightening mask that helps to both detoxify the skin but also give the skin adequate hydration to reveal a glowing, radiant and plump complexion. The mask uses seaweed and spirulina which is packed with phytonutrients and antioxidants to help strengthen and refine the skin and is claims to be the perfect mask to use before a big event.
Aqua (purified water), macadamia integrifolia (macadamia oil), prunus armeniaca (apricot kernel oil), prunus dulcis (almond oil), cetearyl alcohol (plant derived), simmondsia chinensis (jojoba oil), butyrospermum parkii (shea nut butter*), kaolinite (australian yellow clay), kaolin (australian white clay), dehydroacetic acid & benzyl alcohol (geogard221), fucus vesiculosus (fucus), citrus grandis (grapefruit seed extract), lavandula angustifolia (lavender*), xanthan gum, zeolite (zeolite ultrafine clay), aniba roseodora (rosewood), citrus limon (lemon), tocopherol (vitamin E), pogostemon cablin (patchouli*), potassium sorbate, spirulina platensis (spirulina powder*).
As you can see, the ingredients of the Sodashi Skincare line aim to be as pure as possible, focusing on using natural ingredients that have been derived by nature.
For me, I normally find face masks either very clarifying or very hydrating (thus my love for double masking) and the Sodashi Skincare Brightening Marine Mineral Mask is one of the very few masks I have tried that does the two extremely well. I find that this mask is the ultimate pick me up for dull or tired skin as it instantly firms, brightens, hydrates and helps to clarify the skin due to the combination of clays and hydrating butters and oils. My skin loves this gentle mask as it leaves my skin looking radiant, even and overall glowing.
Sodashi Skincare prides it self on using all natural ingredients and where possible, certified organic. Looking closely at the ingredients listing, the first main ingredients (other than water) are either hydrating oils or butters such as apricot kernel oil, macadamia oil, jojoba oil, shea butter or Australian clays. The mask also contains the fucus plant (otherwise known as bladder wrack) - a type of seaweed that shows some promising effects on the skin in terms of elasticity and collagen production which may prevent the signs of ageing over time. It also contains spirulina, another type of algae which also has been said to aid in the detoxifying processes in the body and is also a powerful antioxidant. The mask also contains essential oils such as sandalwood oil, lemon oil and patchouli which also add a beautiful aromatherapy aspect to the mask as well, adding to the whole spa like experience to the mask. The scent of this is incredibly relaxing and uplifting. The ingredient listing of the Brightening Marine Mineral Mask shows a clear focus on hydrating and lifting of the skin via the oils used but also has the clear detoxification aspect via the types of clay and the spirulina used in the mask. The added fucus plant in the ingredients is what I think does make the Brightening Marine Mask special to other wash off masks available on the market as the plant shows promising results in boosting collagen synthesis within the skin's cells. This ingredient, in combination of the wonderful carrier oils used and the use of clay makes is what I do think contributes to the beautiful radiant glow and healthy hydrated skin when removed.
When I use the Sodashi Skincare Brightening Marine Mineral Mask, I immediately love the cooling feeling that this velvety creamy mask leaves on my skin upon application. The mask is easily applied and to me feels more like a super thick night cream than a mask on the skin. One of the most notable things about this mask is that it doesn't dry or harden (like how some clay masks do) which is great for those with really dry skin. I find that due to the fact the mask is just loaded with nourishing oils, it is quite a comfortable mask to be left on the skin for a slightly longer period. I feel like I can comfortably move my face and make facial expressions without that feeling of tightness or 'cracking' the mask. Please note that the instructions on how to use this mask suggest to leave it on for 20 minutes - but I sometimes enjoy leaving this on for a good 45 minutes due to the cool and soothing effect that it has on the face.
Once I wash the mask off, my complexion not only looks more even in tone, it is noticeably brighter and my skin does not feel stripped of any oils (a common occurrence in masks that contain clays), instead it feels much softer, smoother, plump and hydrated. Not only does my skin look and feel healthy, the Brightening Marine Mineral Mask by Sodashi also gives the skin a slight lift. I have been using this mask for a few months now and I do like to use it when my skin is looking tired or dull as my complexion seems to look more rejuvenated and most definitely more 'awake'. It really does give the skin that much needed boost in hydration and creates a beautiful glowing complexion. It makes a wonderful pick me up for the face and also the gorgeous scent adds such a wonderful uplifting feeling. I find that my skin does look clearer and the mask does do a good job at detoxifying the skin. If you are however looking for a dedicated mask to just decongest and detoxify the skin, then the Marine Brightening Mask may not be your option as I do think other masks do this job better. Please bear in mind though that the Brightening Mineral Mask's sole purpose is not to clarify and fully unclog the skin, it's main purpose is to reveal a bright, glowing and hydrated complexion.
Sodashi's Brightening Marine Mask is suggested for most skin types from the Sodashi website, and whilst I do generally agree with statement, I think those who have acne prone skin or oily skin may need to be a bit wary due to the fact that this mask does include shea butter. Shea butter does have the potential to not agree with these skin types due to the fact it is considered to be comedogenic. Those with extremely sensitive skins, especially those who may be allergic to essentials oils do need to also be way as the Marine Brightening Mask does contain some essential oils in the formulation - some common triggers include lavender, rosewood and citrus extracts.
This mask also does have a scent - a scent that I personally quite like as I do find it quite therapeutic and relaxing but also quite soft and not at all overbearing. Scent for me, adds to the whole spa like experience and the soft, unique scent of this mask is no exception. It is important to note that the scent of the Sodashi Skincare Brightening Marine Mask comes from all natural essential oils and whilst there are no synthetic fragrances, those who are sensitive to smell should be wary of this. The Brightening Marine Mask comes in a beautiful black glass jar with a spatula for hygiene purposes. The extra touch of the spatula is fantastic as it makes for easy and clean access of the actual mask and the glass jar looks incredibly luxe on any bedroom or bathroom vanity.
I can understand why Sodashi Skincare's Brightening Marine Mineral Mask has been dubbed as the "hot date" mask, as it truly does leave the skin with a beautiful lit from within glow - essentially how you would want to look before a date or an event! This is mainly due to its formulation of plumping oils from the macadamia nut and apricot kernel seed, unique blend of Australian and volcanic clays and the added bonus of nature's algae coming from the fucus plant and spirulina. I do believe that the combination of these three factors help to leave my skin looking revitalized, brighter, radiant and hydrated after using the Sodashi Skincare Brightening Marine Mask.
Repurchase YAY or NAY:
I really do love a good mask and I love this mask as I can use it on its own or in a routine where I double mask as the effect of the mask is so potent it works well both ways. Even though this mask was gifted to me from Sodashi Skincare, I would absolutely repurchase this again as I love the way my skin looks and feels after using this. It is a fantastic all round mask that both helps to reveal a beautiful, glowing complexion but also helps to keep the skin hydrated, lifted and plump. Its a wonderful go to mask that does do a little bit of everything to reveal beautiful healthy skin.
The Sodashi Skincare Brightening Marine Mineral Mask retails for AUD $110 for 50ml and can be purchased directly from the Sodashi Skincare Website who also offers international shipping.
