Its EMPTIES time again! This year, I have decided to really focus on finishing up what I have and because of this focus, I have a few full size skincare empties this month. This is something that is quite rare for me so I am relishing it! This month, a few of my favourites have been completely used up and whilst it is really sad to say goodbye, I know that I will be reunited with these products again soon (or have already) as I have enjoyed using these very much.Read More
Empties...its something that I really struggle to do as I don't often go through as many empties as I would like. It was one of my New Year's Resolutions to endeavour to use up my products more and also to try and get into the wonderful habit of opening something only when something has been fully used up - like the lovely @skinminimalist has done with her #1empty1newbie crusade. Its a really great project that I know many have got on board with on Instagram and I guess it helps all of us try to keep our skincare stashes in check. Too often to many of us (myself included) not finish product or leave it to expire.
In saying this about empties, I haven't done an Empties post in quite some time due to the wedding, moving, general life and I have accumulated enough empty product to write a decent empties post! So enough with ramble from me and bring on the EMPTIES!Read More
Well here we have it, 2016 has come to an end and what a crazy year it was on both a personal level as well as a global level. This year will be remembered for all sorts of reasons - it will be the year that Brexit happened, Donald Trump was elected into the White House and we also lost icons such as David Bowie, Prince and Carrie Fisher. This year will be the year where the Olympic Games in Rio, once again showed us great sportsmanship and humanity between all nations, no matter what race or religion. An article written in 2016, showed me personally that compassion, inclusion and acceptance shown by some Canadian citizens can make a world of difference to those most in need.
On a more personal level, 2016 was the year that brought me to uproot my life and move overseas to be with the Mr (the man I am marrying in less than 8 weeks!), only to move back home again. It is the year that pushed me to create this blog - orchids&peonies - an outlet where I can let my skincare nerdiness run rampant and free haha. For me, 2016 marked a year of forming amazing friendships, connecting with some amazing brands, learning more about the world of beauty and skincare and overall just have a new found respect and gratitude for everyone who has crossed my path in both their generosity and time. I have met and connected with some amazing people, been able to do some serious travelling this year and have come across some really exciting products and brands! The knowledge that I have built upon this year has amazed me - in both literal knowledge about skincare and just knowledge about myself and what I am able to achieve. Overall, 2016 has been a truly inspiring year and I have many of you to thank for it.
Today's blog post is a little look back on some of my favourite products, my favourite brands and some of my favourite blog posts that I have since starting the orchids&peonies blog back in May 2016!Read More
Sorry for the delay in getting my September Favourites out! It has been a BUSY month - travelling to Korea (albiet it for a holiday), meeting some wedding deadlines, getting sick, juggling family and friend commitments...I feel like October is a month where I can *hopefully* get everything back on track and stay ahead of the game! Although September was busy, it was also an exciting month for me. As mentioned, I was able to travel to Seoul and just immerse myself in the joy that is Korean Beauty (I will be posting about my hauls soon...don't worry, its coming!) and since being back at home in Australia, I have really enjoyed being around my family and friends again. It makes you realise how lucky you really are to be around and be supported by such an amazing network of people - no matter where you are in the world.
I have also been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to try some amazing new products this month from a few different green beauty brands as well as some products that fuse both botanical extracts with science, which I am sure many of you know is something that I love. Most of these products are ones that I have been testing out since before I left for my travels to Seoul, with only one item on this list being a South Korea purchase. I haven't really tried my Korean skincare as much yet but I will get round to it. I myself cannot wait to crack open some of those products! I hope you enjoy my latest September skincare favourites!Read More
As many of you know from my routines, I am huge advocate and fan for Tata Harper cleansers. I own 2 (actually make that 3 as of Friday onwards) of the four cleansers that she has in her line and I really enjoy using each and every one of them. Other than the cleansers, though I hadn't had the chance to try out and of the other Tata Harper skincare products, that was until the lovely ladies at Tata Harper themselves emailed me a few weeks ago to see if I was interested in trying out their brand new Clarifying Moisturiser. I was so excited for the chance to try this and when I came back to Perth, this beautiful green bottle of goodness was waiting for me.
The story behind Tata Harper is quite a personal one, Tata herself used to be an avid user of skincare, using all the latest lotion and potions that her money could buy. When her stepfather was diagnosed with cancer however, it was a big wake-up call for her and she started to look into the ingredients that her personal goods contained and was shocked to find that a lot of them had potentially harmful chemicals on the body. The lack of 100% natural skincare that didn't compromise on performance, smell or texture was hard to come by at the time and Tata Harper found many of the products she used, lacked that research and development that she was used to. This drove Tata Harper to start her own company, conduct her own research and collaborate with industry experts in science and skincare all over the world to create the beautiful line that Tata Harper is today. The Tata Harper brand is unique in the way that the production, research and development is all conducted by the brand (ie. they do not outsource to save on costs) in Vermont. Tata Harper Skincare also has their own 1200 acre farm in Vermont in which many of the botanical plants and extracts are cultivated and harvested to use in the unique Tata Harper formulations. It is obvious that the Tata Harper line is dedicated to providing the best quality skincare possible and using the best ingredients that they can source - their own.
I have been using the Tata Harper Clarifying Moisturiser for a few weeks now and I have to say that I really have been enjoying using it. It really does have that lightweight texture that I am so pedantic about but it also does really keep my skin hydrated. It most definitely hasn't disappointed me and the Clarifying Moisturiser most definitely lives up to the quality that I know Tata Harper products to be.Read More
I love my cleansers. The one product I have a real weakness for are in fact cleansers, I am an absolute cleanser junkie! I love that fresh clean feeling that I get on my skin after using a good cleanser whether it be first thing in the morning or after a long day. The best things about cleansers is also the fact you can choose easily pick one suit your mood or timeframe. Need some extra pampering on your skin? Use a luxe balm/oil cleanser and give yourself a great facial massage! In a rush? Use a cleanser that has some extra zing to wake you up and emulsifies quickly so you can get out of the door. I believe that having a a decent cleanser wardrobe will have you prepared for any sort of situation and mood. Although, I do I tell myself this to justify my many cleanser purchases haha.
If you don't know, I normally cleanse my face once in the morning and in the evening I do what is called a double cleanse. A double cleanse, basically means that I will cleanse my face twice - once with a good solid, cheaper cleanser (see what I use here) and then my second cleanser will be something similar to what I use in the morning. These types of cleansers are normally packed of really beautiful ingredients which aim to do something to the skin, whether it be a gentle exfoliation, further nourishment, antioxidants, etc. Since I have removed all my make up already, these ingredients are directly applied on to my face and my skin can really get the most out of these amazing ingredients. Second/Morning Cleansers are generally a bit more expensive than my first cleansers due to its formulation but I love the whole cleansing step so much that I find it is worth every penny. Cleansing for me, is the foundation to any good skincare routine. I thought that I would share with you some of my favourite second/morning cleansers that I use in my skincare routines and give a brief explanation as to why I love each and every one of them.
