Two weeks ago, I mentioned in my previous blog post that I have accumulated quite a few empties over the past few months and just haven't had the time to share with you this collection of products. As promised, here is part 2 of my empties adventure - with a good mix of skincare, haircare and even a sunscreen! I find that with my empties, there seems to be a recurring trend of a few products. This post especially contains some old favourites which you may have seen pop up in previous posts. However, there is a reason why they keep springing up all the time - they just happen to be some of my tried and true holy grails. Read on for part 2 of my empties!Read More
I love blogging and the skincare community. Blogging and Instagram in particular, has been such a great medium for me to get to know like-minded people (whether it be in skincare or just general life) but also a means for me to be able to learn, expand my knowledge and of course be recommended all sorts of different types of products and brands. It is through social media and blogging that I have been introduced to, purchased and experienced products such as Pixi Glow Tonic, Jordan Samuel Skin's serums, sheet masks and the world of facial oils. There is a never-ending list of products that I wish to purchase and try and my skincare stash has most definitely taken over my bathroom vanity. It is also through social media and blogging that I have learned to appreciate the beauty and simplicity of the 'hydrating serum'. Since Caroline Hiron's introduced me to my very first one (Indeed Lab's Hydraluron), I don't think I have ever looked back as hydrating serums have become a staple in my daily skincare routine. I am rarely without one.
What are hydrating serums exactly? Well, in a nutshell, it is a skincare product designed to give the skin a boost of hydration. Hydration serums normally contain ingredients such a hyaluronic acid - an impressive molecule that can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water and humectants which help to seal and lock in water, keeping the skin looking hydrating, healthy, lifted and plump. I have used a variety of different hydrating serums and here are 7 of my favourites.Read More
Where has 2018 gone??? I swear it seems like only yesterday that we welcomed in a fresh new year. Now, here we are, in the middle of February and I realise just how late I am with my empties for January. My January empties is probably one of my most impressive yet as I have used up a whole bunch of full-size products - not only in skincare but in body care and makeup too! Read on to see what I have used up in the last month!Read More
Hello, hello! It's been such a long time since I last posted. I am so sorry. It's been a very hectic few weeks for me. For those who do not know, I recently started a new job and with any new role, there is a lot of new things to learn. My brain unfortunately just hasn't had the capacity to write any blog posts as of late as when I come home from work, I am literally brain dead! However, as I am now settling in, you will see and hear from me much more often. It is so nice to be back writing on the blog though and we are well into the silly/festive season.
It's a little scary to think that Christmas is not too far away (with just a little over a week to go!) and that 2017 will come to an end soon (is anyone else wondering where has 2017 gone?). Isn't it crazy that we begin a new an exciting 2018 in a little over 2 weeks? Whilst we are well into the festive season, I know many of us are still Christmas shopping and looking for some beautiful gifts for our loved ones. As a skincare lover, I adore sharing my passion with my friends and family and often find myself purchasing skincare related gifts for my family and friends. With that in mind, I thought I would share some gift ideas for those special people in our lives and of course, a little splurging for ourselves is always necessary.Read More
There are a few brands out there which continuously bring out products in which I cannot fault - I am sure that many of you will agree that Jordan Samuel Skin is one of those brands. A skincare range that adopts the less is more philosophy, the brand welcomed some new additions to the line recently - one of them being a moisturiser. I was incredibly lucky to have been gifted some of these recent new additions and I have found that over the past few weeks I have been often reaching for Jordan's new moisturiser called The Performance Cream.
In true Jordan Samuel fashion, this moisturiser isn't about cutting-edge high tech technology, instead, it adopts an 'it just works approach'. Fuelled by carefully thought out ingredients, Jordan Samuel Skin's The Performance Cream is everything that you could ever want in a moisturiser.Read More
I love a good hydrating serum - my skin seems to really enjoy hyaluronic acid and quite often I will incorporate a hydrating booster of some kind in my routine. I have tested a few different ones over the past 18 months and there have been some clear favourites (and others that I don't love so much). Earlier this year, I decided to commit to Jordan Samuel's Hydrate Facial Serum (it seemed like the most logical step after Plie) and now, I honestly don't think I could ever be without this. It is truly a simple but so very effective hydrating serum that contains ingredients such as cucumber extract, aloe juice and of course, hyaluronic acid.
For those that are not familiar with hyaluronic acid, it is a sugary molecule that occurs naturally in the skin. Generally speaking, skin looks more youthful due to it containing hyaluronic acid as this molecule works to hold and retain lots of water. Skin aging is can be linked to a loss of moisture in the skin, a lack of moisture generally creates fine lines or those wrinkles many of us dread. Due to the fact hyaluronic acid attracts and retains water, it will 'soak up' and hold water in the skin and effectively work to plump out those fine lines - reducing the appearance of wrinkles. In a journal article written in 2014, it is said that a hyaluronic acid molecule can hold up to 6 litres for every 1g making it a fantastic solution for moisture retention of the skin. As we age, the skin naturally becomes depleted of hyaluronic acid in the skin and as an adult, the amount of hyaluronic acid is decreased to be about 5% of baseline.
In my few months of using Jordan Samuel Skin's Hydrate Facial Serum I have noticed that my skin absolutely loves this hydrating serum. It works so wonderfully in replenishing my dry and dehydrated skin with an abundance of moisture and hydration. It has become a true favourite.Read More
It is a bit belated, but it IS that time of month again where I share my empties. I have been doing a fair amount of travel lately (I am currently away at the moment!) which has allowed me to use up some samples that I had stashed or some travel sized products which I have been saving for flights or time away from home. A lot of my empties this month are smaller trial sized products or products that are just so great for travelling and have the main focus of hydration. Read on to find out more in what I have used up in the past 4-6 weeks.Read More
I am huge fan of the Jordan Samuel Skin line, as many of you know I absolutely adore the Plie Treatment Cleanser and I am now almost out of my first bottle of Hydrate - Jordan's Hyaluronic Acid Serum (and have and most likely always will repurchase). When I had the opportunity to connect and have a chat with Jordan himself recently, I was pretty nervous. Why? Well he is someone whom I have a tremendous amount of respect for.
For me, Jordan is someone that is not only kind, approachable and incredibly hilarious. He is someone who is knowledgable, does his research and basically just knows what he is talking about with no BS when it comes to skincare and all things skin. This is so obvious in his Skin Talks videos on his YouTube channel. He has a lot of integrity, not only as a person, a brand but also as a business owner. The success of his brand is a testament to this, with little advertising, and a lot of word of mouth rave reviews, the Jordan Samuel Skin line has fast become a favourite for the skincare obsessed and beyond.
What sets Jordan's line - Jordan Samuel Skin from many other brands is perhaps its simplistic approach. With only 4 SKUs, Jordan's line is small and simple and it is the way he intends it to be. The less is more approach to good skin is what Jordan and his line is all about I had the amazing opportunity to pick his brain about it and learn exactly why this may be the case.Read More
Out of all the skincare products that I use, I actually get the most joy with using a cleanser. I simply love a good cleanser - whether it be an oil, balm, powder or gel I find that each and every cleanser in my stash has its benefits and its uses. If there is one thing I have learnt in the realm of cleansers, its that some are better at removing makeup and the day's grime better than others. Being the lazy person that I am, I actually heavily rely on my first cleanse to remove my makeup in the evening or after a long day at work. Having tested out my fair share of cleansers, I find that there are certain cleansers which I can always rely on when it comes to annihilating/destroying my makeup - no matter how heavy my coverage may be. To keep things simple, I have narrowed my list down to my favourite three. Enjoy!Read More
Well here we have it, 2016 has come to an end and what a crazy year it was on both a personal level as well as a global level. This year will be remembered for all sorts of reasons - it will be the year that Brexit happened, Donald Trump was elected into the White House and we also lost icons such as David Bowie, Prince and Carrie Fisher. This year will be the year where the Olympic Games in Rio, once again showed us great sportsmanship and humanity between all nations, no matter what race or religion. An article written in 2016, showed me personally that compassion, inclusion and acceptance shown by some Canadian citizens can make a world of difference to those most in need.
On a more personal level, 2016 was the year that brought me to uproot my life and move overseas to be with the Mr (the man I am marrying in less than 8 weeks!), only to move back home again. It is the year that pushed me to create this blog - orchids&peonies - an outlet where I can let my skincare nerdiness run rampant and free haha. For me, 2016 marked a year of forming amazing friendships, connecting with some amazing brands, learning more about the world of beauty and skincare and overall just have a new found respect and gratitude for everyone who has crossed my path in both their generosity and time. I have met and connected with some amazing people, been able to do some serious travelling this year and have come across some really exciting products and brands! The knowledge that I have built upon this year has amazed me - in both literal knowledge about skincare and just knowledge about myself and what I am able to achieve. Overall, 2016 has been a truly inspiring year and I have many of you to thank for it.
Today's blog post is a little look back on some of my favourite products, my favourite brands and some of my favourite blog posts that I have since starting the orchids&peonies blog back in May 2016!Read More
