The future of beauty seems to be in product customisation as more consumers are now leaving behind the age-old idea of one size fits all in the beauty industry. As Ee Ting Ng, founder and formulator in chief of bespoke skincare brand hop & cotton agrees, "It’s fantastic that people are recognising that their skin needs are unique and that they no longer have to settle for ‘one-size-fit-all’ products". Thanks to the internet, consumers are smarter than ever. They have access to information about almost every product available on the market – all that is required is a Google search. In the ever so saturated beauty industry; consumers, more than ever, are demanding more from beauty companies. With increased competition, there is more demand for innovation - something different, a product that sets itself apart from all the others. What better way to set a product apart from the rest when it is tailor-made? A product that is unique as the of individual it was created for and targets specific concerns and needs for that person. Thanks to advancements in technology, bespoke and customisation are no longer just reserved for suits and gowns – its skin deep in our beauty products too. I had the wonderful opportunity to speak with Ee Ting to find out a little bit more about tailor-made beauty and the process of creating a bespoke custom skincare product.Read More
As many of you know, I love a good cleanser - in fact I can happily admit that I am a cleanser junkie. I love all different types of cleansers, whether it be an oil cleanser, balm cleanser, cream cleanser or gel cleanser - I believe each and every one in my collection has its purpose. Recently, I was contacted by the Dr LEVY Switzerland PR Team and was asked if I would like to try to their 3 Deep Cell Renewal Micro-Resurfacing Cleanser. Having never tried anything from the brand before but very fascinated with the premise of the line I gratefully said yes. I am so glad that I did, as this exfoliating cleanser (that also works as a mask) has got to be one of the most efficient of its kind that I have ever tried. The 3 Deep Cleanser makes my skin smoother, brighter and it just glows.
For those that don't know, the Dr Levy Switzerland line is developed by one of the most infamous aesthetic dermatologists in the world, Dr Philip Levy - a laser and wound healing specialist. With the discovery of dermal stem cells in 2009, Dr Levy strove to develop a line that would help his patients avoid surgery and ultimately reverse the signs of aging. With this passion, he created the Dr Levy Switzerland line that utilises his innovative (and patented) ArganCellActiv Complex a formula that has been clinically proven to stimulate, protect and nourish skin’s own regeneration system. In short his line is supposed to show smoother, firmer, stronger, overall more youthful looking skin. The Dr Levy range is a cosmeceutical range which combines both medical grade results and a truly luxurious experience and all products are developed and made in Switzerland.
The entire line contains 6 products, ranging from a cleanser, a serum and a range of different moisturisers depending on the skin type. I was very fortunate enough to try the 3 Deep Cell Renewal Micro-Resurfacing Cleanser and I was very happy with the results.Read More
I am sure many of you have had this same feeling...you know the one where you find a skincare or makeup brand that you feel resonates with you and just seems to work? That brand where you pretty much have loved every single product in their range and hardly ever fails to disappoint. There are possibly a small handful of brands where I feel very passionately about and one of these is none other than Allies of Skin. I pretty much love everything in their range and I do think that Nicolas Travis' creations and formulations are definitely ones to watch. Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to try their latest creation - Bright Future Overnight Facial and whilst I was a little skeptical in how it worked (I had to learn how to REALLY strip back my skincare routine), I found myself really enjoying the results and just surprised at how effective this product really is. Bright Future is quite simply put an sleeping peel that aims to illuminate, regenerate and renew the skin. In true Allies of Skin style, the brand have yet again simplified the skincare rules and steps and created a product that aims to do everything in 30 seconds.Read More
Drunk Elephant Skincare is a brand that I have always been curious to try ever since I have joined the Instagram skincare community. I often came across rave reviews about the products in the range from fellow US Instagrammers and bloggers. When my friend was visiting the states earlier this year, I asked her to kindly pick me up a bottle of T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum as I had nothing like it in my skincare stash and I thought it would be a fantastic way of mixing up my chemical exfoliation in my skincare routine.
For many of you, the name Drunk Elephant (or as I sometimes like to refer to it as Wasted Elephant hahaha) comes from the myth that elephants in Africa love to eat the fruit of the Marula trees. The story goes that once the Marula fruits have been ingested, fermentation occurs in the stomachs of the elephants and the elephants become quite drunk. How elephants comes into this equation is that Drunk Elephant Skincare features virgin marula oil in all the products across the line. You see, Marula oil is one of founder Tiffany Masterson's favourite ingredients as she believes that the oil is superior to any other oil she has ever tried. The brand was born out of Tiffany's passion to learn more about potential toxic ingredients used in our personal care products, the effect they have on general skin health and understand to root cause of skin sensitivity.
In conversing with skin care specialists such as dermatologists, beauty editors, aestheticians and other skincare experts, Tiffany started to learn more about skincare habits, needs, what works, what doesn't work and what the perfect skincare solution may look like. In her years of research, she began to understand that the solution to good skin was simple: high quality ingredients, sticking to the essentials and keeping away from harmful ingredients. The Drunk Elephant Skincare range was born from years of research and development and every ingredients is hand picked and carefully selected from Tiffany herself. There are no fragrances whether they be natural or synthetic added to any of her formulations and the brand prides itself from eliminating a list of potentially harmful ingredients from all formulations. What I love about Drunk Elephant Skincare is that the brand doesn't claim to be all natural (it isn't) but it prides itself on producing effective and 'safe' skincare products that do not contain any irritating ingredients.
The Drunk Elephant Skincare T.L.C Framboos Glycolic Night Serum had a lot of hype to live up to as almost everyone I had spoken to had raved about this product and I expected to see results from this. What I didn't expect however was to see results so quickly! After just using this once, I was amazed at how smooth my skin felt and how my skin tone seemed to be brighter my skin from using this overnight. I was clearly very impressed with this.Read More
I will admit, I find it really hard to make it to skincare empties as I do change up my routine quite often. There is however much satisfaction when I do make it to the end of a product though and for me it means that I can use or open up something new in my routine. These days I have learnt to not be so light handed with products and to not be afraid to use some things a little bit more generously/heavy handedly as if I went on the rate that I was at previously, I don't think I would have ever finished anything! In saying that however, this is my empties for this month, its not many but at least they are empty!Read More
I'm so sorry I have been a bit quiet on the blog front everyone! I have just moved back to Australia and have been pretty much on the go since I have returned, so my blog posts won't be as often as I would like them to be in the next week or two. I have been quite busy catching up with family and friends and the Mr and I have been on the hunt for an apartment! I'm hoping we get one soon and until we settle into one, my blog posts may be a little sporadic! I will however endeavor to post as often as I can!
As some of your may know, I recently purchased an item from May Lindstrom - as I loved The Honey Mud and wanted to try something different in my skincare. My most recent purchase from May Lindstrom Skin was The Clean Dirt, an gentle exfoliating cleanser. I both love and dislike The Clean Dirt as I find that this cleansing clay leaves my skin feeling beautifully soft and radiant after cleansing. However, sometimes if I am not careful with how moisturise and hydrate my skin afterwards, my skin does become slightly irritated around the eye area and jaw line. I have found that this could be due to some of the ingredients that are in The Clean Dirt that just do not sit with my sensitive skin. Despite this however, I still continue to use May Lindstrom's The Clean Dirt due to the fact it really does work so well to purify my complexion with May's wonderful and well thought out blend of natural botanicals, clays and spices. I just need to be a bit more careful with how and how often I use this which is a shame because my skin looks and feels so good when I wash this wonderful cleansing clay off!

I have been living in China for a little over a week now and oh my goodness, it's quite the culture shock! So many huge changes such as the language (I cannot speak a drop of Mandarin), getting around, where I go to complete the simple things such a groceries, navigating around the shops, online banking (to name a few) and coffee! Australian coffee how I would love to have a sip of your right now! I do feel like I am adjusting and slowly adapting to things but as cheesy as it does sound, Australia is and always will be home. I do miss things in Australia very much and I am missing my friends and family greatly. However, China offers new experiences and adventures and I do get to be with the Mr which is very, very nice too. Changes happen and we just have to adapt, adjust and make the most out of every situation. I am sure that in a few months time I will love my life here and will have new friends and have some amazing experiences that I can treasure and tell those at home about.
In the spirit of being a little homesick, I thought I would review an Australian product and talk about one of my favourite exfoliators that I use in my skincare regime: The Go-To-Skincare Exfoliating Swipeys.Read More
