It's empties time! It has been a while since I have last posted. Its been a very busy time as I have been travelling quite frequently. However, with so much travel I have had the pleasure of using up a little more product that I normally would as my routines have been pretty streamlined and quite consistent. In the month of September I have used up some favourites of mine which I may have spoken of in the past or you have seen me used frequently in my daily routines on Instagram. Read on to find out a few the things I finished in September....Read More
Yay! It's empties time and this post has been a little belated (sorry!). I am currently in the midst of travelling and its been a little harder than I thought to get my posts up and running (thank you technology and lack of internet). I think we should be back on track from now onwards. Thank you for bearing with me...
June was another big empties month for me in skincare and I even have an addition for haircare! I ran out of serums, masks and moisturisers last month so I have plenty to write about and won't leave this too long. I find that it is so satisfying to finish something off and this is an area I think I am most definitely improving in. Most of of these products that I have finished this month have been ones that I do quite enjoy using and are things I would look into repurchasing again. Have a read at what I went through over the last month and ENJOY!Read More
Well April has been a pretty exciting month for me, with a move pending (yes I am moving again...not too far this time round though), celebrations of all kinds with friends and family, meeting and making new friends (hehe you know who you are) and of course having the opportunity to try new skincare products.
There have a been a plethora of new releases from all different brands recently, which excites me greatly as it shows that there is a change of seasons coming. In the Northern Hemisphere, summer is soon approaching and it is (hopefully) goodbye to rainy days and grey skies. However in the Southern Hemisphere, we farewell endless amounts of sunshine and get ready to rug up for winter. I have already purchased some of these new releases and I can't wait for them to arrive for me to test and play.
New releases aside, I have had the most wonderful chance to experience some new releases this past month as well as be introduced to some brands that are still quite new to me. Today I share with you my six skincare favourites for April 2017!Read More
I am sure many of you have had this same feeling...you know the one where you find a skincare or makeup brand that you feel resonates with you and just seems to work? That brand where you pretty much have loved every single product in their range and hardly ever fails to disappoint. There are possibly a small handful of brands where I feel very passionately about and one of these is none other than Allies of Skin. I pretty much love everything in their range and I do think that Nicolas Travis' creations and formulations are definitely ones to watch. Recently, I had the amazing opportunity to try their latest creation - Bright Future Overnight Facial and whilst I was a little skeptical in how it worked (I had to learn how to REALLY strip back my skincare routine), I found myself really enjoying the results and just surprised at how effective this product really is. Bright Future is quite simply put an sleeping peel that aims to illuminate, regenerate and renew the skin. In true Allies of Skin style, the brand have yet again simplified the skincare rules and steps and created a product that aims to do everything in 30 seconds.Read More
Hello everyone! I am so sorry I have taken such a while to post, the past one and half weeks have been hectic with finalising bits and pieces for the wedding...which is happening in less than FIVE WEEKS I might add. A lot of things have been pushed to the side and unfortunately my little blog has been neglected - I am so sorry to all of your who regularly read my blog. In the lead up to the wedding - I may be a little busy but I will try my best to post at least once a week, I love this blog and creating content and writing about skincare really does take me to a happy place!
In the lead up to my wedding I have come across some amazing new products and this January has been no exception when it comes to new products to play with. In the festive holidays I allowed myself to splurge a little in the Black Friday sales and purchased myself a few goodies from Mahalo Skincare and Allies of Skin. I also had the opportunity to try some Zelens goodies from Maslow & Co (who now stock some of the brand!). In late December I also had the privilege to try and discover Lina Hanson through the extremely impressive Boxwalla subscription service, as well as having the wonderful ladies at 5YINA share with me their gorgeous Enlighten Spring Collection. These wonderful products have stood out in the last month to become some of my favourites products for the first and action packed month of 2017!Read More
Well here we have it, 2016 has come to an end and what a crazy year it was on both a personal level as well as a global level. This year will be remembered for all sorts of reasons - it will be the year that Brexit happened, Donald Trump was elected into the White House and we also lost icons such as David Bowie, Prince and Carrie Fisher. This year will be the year where the Olympic Games in Rio, once again showed us great sportsmanship and humanity between all nations, no matter what race or religion. An article written in 2016, showed me personally that compassion, inclusion and acceptance shown by some Canadian citizens can make a world of difference to those most in need.
On a more personal level, 2016 was the year that brought me to uproot my life and move overseas to be with the Mr (the man I am marrying in less than 8 weeks!), only to move back home again. It is the year that pushed me to create this blog - orchids&peonies - an outlet where I can let my skincare nerdiness run rampant and free haha. For me, 2016 marked a year of forming amazing friendships, connecting with some amazing brands, learning more about the world of beauty and skincare and overall just have a new found respect and gratitude for everyone who has crossed my path in both their generosity and time. I have met and connected with some amazing people, been able to do some serious travelling this year and have come across some really exciting products and brands! The knowledge that I have built upon this year has amazed me - in both literal knowledge about skincare and just knowledge about myself and what I am able to achieve. Overall, 2016 has been a truly inspiring year and I have many of you to thank for it.
Today's blog post is a little look back on some of my favourite products, my favourite brands and some of my favourite blog posts that I have since starting the orchids&peonies blog back in May 2016!Read More
Can you believe that Christmas is in just two weeks...yes TWO WEEKS! Where has 2016 gone? Before we even know it, the crazy Christmas rush will be over and we will be preparing ourselves to welcome in the new year - 2017 is just around the corner. However, before I can even worry about 2017 (a big year for me!), I need to overcome Christmas!
I absolutely love Christmas. It is such a happy, buzzing and exciting time of year I find - no matter where you are in the world. All the stores are decked out in glorious Christmas decorations, Christmas carols are to be heard left, right and centre and there is just so much excitement in the air. I absolutely love watching children's faces light up over the amazement and magic of a beautifully decorated tree, Christmas lights or a toy that they have seen recently. It reminds me of my own childhood. The other thing I absolutely love about Christmas is giving - I love present buying (and the wrapping to follow after - seriously my house is currently a paper bomb of wrapping paper and ribbon) and nothing makes me happier to see my friends and family receive and unwrap a present.
In saying that, Christmas gift buying can be incredibly hard for loved ones so I thought I would make a little gift guide to give some Christmas inspiration for you all. Most of these suggestions are beauty or skincare related - so it is perfect for those skincare addicts like myself who want to pass on that passion to their loved ones. My gift guide contains ideas for the following people: Secret Santa/Co-Workers, The Man in Your Life, Best Friend/Sister, Mothers, The Person Who Has Everything and also those who want something a little more indulgent. Have fun and I hope it helps you!Read More
Sorry for the delay in getting my September Favourites out! It has been a BUSY month - travelling to Korea (albiet it for a holiday), meeting some wedding deadlines, getting sick, juggling family and friend commitments...I feel like October is a month where I can *hopefully* get everything back on track and stay ahead of the game! Although September was busy, it was also an exciting month for me. As mentioned, I was able to travel to Seoul and just immerse myself in the joy that is Korean Beauty (I will be posting about my hauls soon...don't worry, its coming!) and since being back at home in Australia, I have really enjoyed being around my family and friends again. It makes you realise how lucky you really are to be around and be supported by such an amazing network of people - no matter where you are in the world.
I have also been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to try some amazing new products this month from a few different green beauty brands as well as some products that fuse both botanical extracts with science, which I am sure many of you know is something that I love. Most of these products are ones that I have been testing out since before I left for my travels to Seoul, with only one item on this list being a South Korea purchase. I haven't really tried my Korean skincare as much yet but I will get round to it. I myself cannot wait to crack open some of those products! I hope you enjoy my latest September skincare favourites!Read More
I have stumbled upon some fantastic new skincare brands as of late that I have had to divide this month's new skincare discoveries into two parts! In this first half of August's skincare discoveries I mention three brands from different parts of the world which aim to deliver the best skincare possible for the skin. The three different brands have extremely different approaches in their formulations to achieve this. Brand new green beauty label, Virginia Stone focuses on a more customised routine that uses raw, natural and unique organic active ingredients to help its three targeted skin tones. Singaporean label, Allies of Skin combines both nature and science together in its potent and effortless, no fuss and easy to use formulations. Finally we have Rationale Skincare, a cosmoceutical brand that focuses heavily on research and development and works closely with Dermatologists and Plastic Surgeons across Australia to deliver products with concentrated active ingredients. Despite their differences though, each brand brings something quite unique and different to the table which is why I find that they are an exciting new discovery and why I am so excited to share!
