As many of you have seen on my Instagram, I am having a little giveaway in conjunction with the lovely Virginia of Virginia Stone! I am super excited about this brand as not only does the packaging just look amazing, but also the found Virginia, is just a lovely and beautiful person to speak with, she has so much passion for what she does. I stumbled upon this brand last month and was absolutely fascinated with the concept of the brand and I wanted to share it with everyone in my Skincare Discoveries post. However, there were some aspects of the brand which I didn't quite understand, so I reached out and emailed Virginia and she kindly got back to me answering my all my (101) questions. Later on, Virginia was kind enough to offer a giveaway for my Instagram followers in which is still running up until the end of the month (more details below!)
Since the giveaway started, I have been receiving some questions about the brand and I thought I would try to share further information about the brand and its product 'Eyes' in this blog post. Please bear in mind, that I have NOT been paid to write this post and Virginia Stone has NOT compensated me personally in anyway. I have written this simply due to the fact that I have been really interested in the brand, its concept and how exactly their product 'Eyes' works, especially by way of the concept of choosing to differentiate their products by skin tones rather than skin types. The information that Virginia shared with me was really interesting and I felt that I have a bit more of an understanding about my own skin type, especially those that concern my eye area.
As many of you may know, the first product that is being released by Virginia Stone is their superfood eye cream called 'Eyes' which is currently available for pre-order and will be dispatched sometime this month. As mentioned earlier, Virginia Stone has a really unique concept in the way that the product offerings are not divided by skin type, but instead by skin tone. There are three different skin tones in the collection: Kavesi for Fair Skin Tones, Jasari for Medium Skin Tones and Odaja for Dark Skin Tones and each of these are customised according to the different concerns and requirements that each skin tone will have.
Virginia kindly broke it down to me last weekend when I bombarded her with another email full of questions. "In regards to designing 'Eyes' based on the individual requirements of each skin tone - this is absolutely necessary to be able to achieve maximum results and address the concerns of each skin personality. The eyes are the first area on your face to age, therefore they need special care and attention. The eye area of a fair skin toned client is much different than the eye area of a dark skin toned client, and fair skin tones show age much faster then medium and dark skin tones". She then continues to explain and highlight the differences of each of the skin personalities in terms of the product 'Eyes' which helps explain a little more in how the product works. For example, those with fairer skin tones generally have a delicate, thinner and more transparent skin around their eye area. Due to these skin properties, those who have these sorts of complexions with find that dark shadows and uneven skin tone are more visible and noticeable. Kavesi - the 'Eyes' cream for this skin type is lighter in formula to address the thinner and delicate nature of the eyes. The formulation has more of a focus in sun protection, an ingredient complex to even out the skin tone and ingredients which act to help diminish the appearance of dark circles and to brighten the eye area.
Those with a medium skin tone, will of course have different concerns to those who have fair skin. People with a medium skin tone will generally have denser and less transparent skin around the eyes that also contains a bit more melanin. Melanin is the pigment that gives human hair, skin and eyes their colour and those with a darker complexions will produce more melanin than those who have fairer skin. A medium skin tone will have similar concerns to those with fair skin by way of dark shadows and uneven skin tone, however the formulation, like all of Virgnia Stone formulations will be that little bit more tailored. Due to the fact those with medium skin tones have denser and less transparent skin the in the eye area, it is important the the formulation of 'Eyes' for Jasari be more much rich in feel and will contain more potent actives. 'Eyes' for Jasari will aim to target dark shadows but also contains an active complex of ingredients that increase the circulation and lymphatic drainage of the eye area to minimise the appearance of under eye bags and inflammation. I myself, can totally relate to this as my main concern being that of a medium skin tone is the appearance of dark circles and bags in the eye area. They show so incredibly easy if I haven't had enough rest! Virginia also states that Jasari is also "designed to hydrate and plump up the skin, giving the eyes a youthful smooth glow. Loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, 'Eyes' for Jasari feeds the skin vital nutrients required for cell renewal and anti-ageing".
The final skin personality in the Virginia Stone range is Odaja which is made specfifically for those with darker skin. According to Virginia, those with a darker skin tone has high skin density that is non transparent and contains a high level of melanin. Not only does melanin give skin its colour but also acts to absorb sunlight. Darker skin tones will have a higher amount of melanin in their skin which will also all a certain amount of natural sun protection (ie. they will not burn as easily as those with fair skin). This is why dark shadows are not targeted as much in the formulation of 'Eyes' for Odaja, the main focus of this product is instead hydration as the skin in the eye area for the those with a dark skin tone is so dense and therefore it requires a richer concentration of hydration and more potent antioxidant complexes to protect the skin.
It is also important to note that all three different 'Eyes' formulations sound luxuriously decadent and indulgent! I did mention in my previous post that all Virginia Stone Eyes formulations contain about 57 different raw and unique ingredients. They contain beautiful butters, oils, botanical extracts and even teas. I also love the fact that the ingredients list is split up into the 5 different layers in creating the product, so what goes in the formulation is even more transparent than ever. For example looking at the ingredients you will notice that the Eyes formulation will start with a butter which is the base of the product, from that base an additional 4 layers are carefully mixed in layer by layer to create a 3 in 1 superfood eye cream in which Virginia has described as being like a lush whipped cream and that a little goes a long way. In terms of the formulation, whilst USD$255 may seem expensive, the product is designed to last 2-3 months if applied every day, twice a day.
One can also not ignore the incredibly unique, beautiful and luxe packaging of the stone Luxador that Virginia Stone uses to store 'Eyes'. Each stone is hand crafted and is environmentally sustainable and friendly. I think it would also look quite impressive on the bathroom counter or on a shelf as well! On the website, you are able to pick which colour stone you would like (there are three options) which makes it even that little bit more personalised.
With Eyes being available to be shipped soon, a full range expected to be released over the next 12 months for those who may be interested in other things later on down the track. Like many of you, I am super curious about Virginia Stone and also really excited with what is to come. I really love learning from Virginia and I am so intrigued by exotic concoction of ingredients she has picked for her each of her Eyes formulation, I can only expect great things from her brand and what is to come!
