I have been living in China for a little over a week now and oh my goodness, it's quite the culture shock! So many huge changes such as the language (I cannot speak a drop of Mandarin), getting around, where I go to complete the simple things such a groceries, navigating around the shops, online banking (to name a few) and coffee! Australian coffee how I would love to have a sip of your right now! I do feel like I am adjusting and slowly adapting to things but as cheesy as it does sound, Australia is and always will be home. I do miss things in Australia very much and I am missing my friends and family greatly. However, China offers new experiences and adventures and I do get to be with the Mr which is very, very nice too. Changes happen and we just have to adapt, adjust and make the most out of every situation. I am sure that in a few months time I will love my life here and will have new friends and have some amazing experiences that I can treasure and tell those at home about.
In the spirit of being a little homesick, I thought I would review an Australian product and talk about one of my favourite exfoliators that I use in my skincare regime: The Go-To-Skincare Exfoliating Swipeys.
The brand Go-To-Skincare is the brainchild of beauty writer, editor and author Zoe Foster-Blake (who is the other half of funny man Hamish of 'Hamish and Andy'). The philosophy of the brand is to make 'uncomplicated, effective, cruelty-free, natural skin care' but also have a little bit of fun which can be seen in the descriptions of each of the products on the website (they are actually quite entertaining). The range compromises of 6 "go-to" products such as a cleanser, exfoliator, face-oil, lip balm, body oil and facial moisturiser which can be used as a set or implemented with your existing skincare regime. Each product has been tested vigorously by Zoe herself to ensure that it passes her own needs and the range prides itself on containing no nasty irritants and the marketing BS that some companies promise.
When this brand came out a few years ago, I jumped on board to purchase the Lips! Lip balm and I am happy to say it is still one of my best lip balms that I often reach for on those dry lip days. A few months ago, I purchased the Exfoliating Swipeys from the Go-To Skincare website as I needed an exfoliator in my routine. We did not get along at first - actually we did not get along very well at all. The first time I used these wipes I was not used to the acid exfoliating (it was all new to me at the time) and it made my dry cheeks burn and sting a little. I emailed their customer service straight away asking if this was normal as I knew that with any acid there would be some sensation and my sensitive skin was just not used to the lactic acid in this product. The lovely ladies replied back to me the next morning with the following response:
The Exfoliating Swipeys do contain lactic acid and they do tingle on the skin initially....you'll probably find that the tingle sensation disappears after a few uses. However, if the stinging sensation starts to feel more like a burn and/or leave your skin red then definitely stop using them. They contain 5% lactic acid which is the gentlest of AHA's and whilst it's very unlikely you'll have a reaction, there is always a chance it is too strong for your skin.
Remember to always rinse off as well after 60 seconds. Don't forget we have a 30 day returns policy so if you have any further concerns get back in touch.
I felt a little better and after about a week of the initial use of these pads, I tried again. This time there was still a tingle but it did not feel like it was burning. Overtime, I found that the feeling I get when using these is just a mild tingle that lasts for just a few seconds. I have never looked back since and these are possibly one of my favourite exfoliators in my skincare collection.
What Are These:
The Exfoliating Swipeys are single use facial pads (much like the First Aid Beauty Radiance Pads) that are soaked in an all natural solution that contains lactic acid (an AHA) and essential oils to also hydrate the skin at the same time.
What Do They Do:
As the name suggests, these exfoliate your skin using chemical exfoliation as opposed to a scrub.
As per the Go-To Skincare website - Water, lactic acid, aloe vera, mandarin (essential oil), almond oil polyglycerol, dehydroacetic acid, benzyl alcohol, lemon (essential oil), potassium sorbate.
As mentioned before, I love these and I do often find myself grabbing these pads more often than some of my other exfoliators. The main reason is due to the ease of use and the fact that they are quick but also efficient, basically all you to is swipe the cotton soaked pad over your face using both sides, wait a minute and rinse your face. After following these steps, my skin is noticeably smoother and radiant. My skin feels extremely clean but not at all dry and I do honestly feel like I am glowing (and I LOVE glowing skin). For me I find that these pads have thoroughly 'sloughed' off any excess dead skin cells and have truly revealed fresh new skin and kickstarting the skin regeneration process. For this reason, I find that these Exfoliating Swipeys act as the perfect skin prep for a face mask. From the exfoliation process the skin basically has a 'clean slate' to absorb all those wonderful ingredients in the mask and the active ingredients from the mask will do more for your skin as there is no skin build up in the way.
The packaging of these swipeys are also great, they come as a set of 50 in a super cute peach and white plastic tub with a plastic screw lid. The tab/jar is not at all heavy but it is made of a thick plastic which also makes it a valuable travel companion and as the pads are already soaked in a solution, no fuss and virtually mess free. Major brownie points there for Zoe and her team!
With regards to scent - I do love the scent of these pads, they have a slightly citrusy peachy smell to them which is refreshing. Some people might not like the smell but I personally am not that phased by scent at all and this scent for me is quite pleasant and not at all offensive.
The amount of 50 pads might not seem a lot but keep in mind you are only supposed to use these 2-3 times a week, so it will last you for a good 4 months.
Repurchase, YAY or NAY:
I definitely would repurchase these pads again when I run out. They do save me so much time and I love the results that it gives me. I feel that using these definitely do enhance other areas of my skincare routine and leave my skin radiant, glowing and hydrated. Would highly recommend these to ALMOST anyone, if you have very, very sensitive skin just be wary and if you get an adverse reaction make sure you return these!
